April 17, 2025 - Exhibiting now through the end of April at the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library is Margaret Dowling-Murphy, a lifelong art enthusiast, who creates artwork using a wide range of styles and mediums including oil, acrylic, woodburning, resin, watercolor, and mixed media.

"I made a homecoming to art in recent years, revisiting familiar mediums and exploring new ones in pursuit of the fullest range of artistic expression, and that is what this exhibit is about: Finding a Happy Medium," explains Margaret.

A native of Orangetown, NY, she taught high school English for over ten years before starting her own business. She made a homecoming to her creative pursuits and established Murphy Wood Art in March of 2020 with her partner and husband, Kevin. Their work and story have been featured by News12 Hudson Valley, Rockland County Times, Hudson Valley Magazine, Canvas Rebel Magazine, Shoutout Colorado, Irish Star, Irish Echo, and Redfin.

Whereas their joint business, Murphy Wood Art, focuses on more rustic art and decor, her new companion site, Dowling Murphy Art, features her independent canvas work along with prints and other items for art lovers.
"I have followed a non-linear path, and it has exposed me to different places, professions, and people, all of which have formed my overall experience and unique perspective. While my work is often nature-inspired, I aim to capture beauty in several forms bringing together elements of both realism and abstraction. As a result, I have embraced a range of subject matter and styles in order to create an eclectic body of work."
As a member of the Arts Council of Rockland (ACOR), her work has been featured as part of the “Women of ACOR” exhibit at the New City Library and at their Hidden Treasure Galleries at both the Rockland County Courthouse as well as the Palisades Center. She has held exhibits at the West Nyack Library, Pearl River Library, Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Library (April 2025), and she is looking forward to her upcoming exhibits Nyack Library (July-August 2025).
Her current exhibit will be on display through the end of April where visitors can purchase both original works and prints.
